Region & Era Play — guess where and when it happened
Pick a region, pick an era, then play as many five-round games as you like. Free, and no account is needed to start.
What Region & Era Play is
The same where-and-when puzzle as the Daily Challenge, except you choose the pool and you can keep going. Five regions — Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Oceania — plus World for all of them at once, and six eras: Antiquity, Medieval, Early Modern, the 19th century, the 20th century and Modern. Every run is five rounds drawn from a curated library of over 450 real historical events, so you can drill the corner of the map or the stretch of time you are weakest on instead of taking whatever the day hands you.
How scoring and mastery work
A round pays up to 10,000 points: 6,000 for how close your pin lands to the true location and 4,000 for how close you land in time. You answer the time question as a band to begin with; exact-year entry unlocks on the when axis once your mastery reaches Adept. Mastery is tracked separately for where and when across five rungs — Novice, Apprentice, Adept, Expert and Master — and the mix gets harder as you climb, so the game keeps meeting you at the edge of what you actually know.
Why it is worth playing
Part map quiz, part history trivia, and better practice than either on its own: placing an event in space and in time forces you to connect them, which is what makes the pair stick. Every event is a real one, with the coordinates and date carried from Wikidata — see how we source events or how to play.
