Free Geo Drill
Learn US states on a map
Practice finding every US state and Washington, DC, including Alaska and Hawaii, on an interactive map.
Practice US statesOpens: Locate each state from its name. Free to start as a guest.
What you’ll practice
This drill asks you to place a named state on the map. It keeps the whole United States in view so Alaska and Hawaii stay part of the same practice set.
A useful way to practice
Start with the full map once, then use the results to notice which neighboring states you mix up. A later unassisted session is the one that advances your review progress.
The drill uses the app’s US first-level subdivision pack. Its boundary data is derived from the project’s Natural Earth and US Census cartographic sources.
Put the map to work in history
Once a place feels familiar, use it in a Terra Tempus history round: read a clue about a real, sourced event, place it on the map, then set it in time.
